CranioSacral Therapy Treatment

CranioSacral Therapy, Visceral Manipulation

As a registered massage therapist and certified CranioSacral therapist, my focus is on the physical causes of pain and illness. Using primarily CranioSacral therapy (CST) and Visceral Manipulation (VM) as tools, I facilitate the body in the unwinding and releasing of the patterns that have led to chronic pain, tension and illness.

I practice as a massage therapist this way, because while traditional massage can feel nice (and there is absolutely a place for that type of treatment), I find that CST and VM are the deepest form of treatment that I personally can offer for physical ailments.

-This type of session includes CranioSacral Therapy, Visceral Manipulation, and although not the focus of my work, could also include some localized traditional massage techniques.

A bit about CranioSacral Therapy and Visceral Manipulation

CranioSacral therapy and Visceral Manipulation engages with your body’s own self-correcting and healing processes. In the same way that your body knows how to heal a cut, broken bone, or from a viral illness, CST and VM facilitates or enhances your body’s natural healing ability when the trauma or disease processes are too overwhelming for your system to sort out by itself.

When your body has been overwhelmed by a stressor - whether physical (illness, injury or adhesions), or emotional (stress, anxiety etc..) - it does its very best to minimize the impact and find a new way of functioning in order to compensate for the new area of vulnerability. As the body tries to compensate locally, the dysfunction can snowball as other parts of the body are affected by a ripple effect, leading to local or globalized chronic pain, tension, illness, mental health disruptions, reduced range of motion, and/or other problems with the efficacy of the systemic processes (musculoskeletal, fascial, immune, nervous, endocrine, digestive, urinary, circulatory, lymphatic, respiratory, reproductive, and integumentary) of the body.

Helping the body to release these restrictions through CST or VM not only addresses the original injury, but also the corresponding compensatory patterns. This enables the muscles and frame to readjust to a more balanced position, reducing the strain on not only the muscles, bones and joints, but also the systemic processes of the body that perpetuate chronic tension, pain and illness.

CST and VM are also helpful for maintenance of the body, helping to calm the nervous system during stressful times, and helping you to heal after acute injuries or illnesses, especially accidents, falls, concussions and illnesses in general. Getting treatment sooner rather than later after an injury, illness, or stressful time helps to fortify your body’s own innate healing ability to heal from the assault, preventing prolonged compensation patterns, and/or chronic pain or illness from setting in.
